Happy Val's Day Everyone!!!




Why is Val’s day so different this year? The atmosphere is more fitting for a world about to end. There's this unexplainable rush everywhere. Everybody seems to be in a hurry, cards are sold out, counters are crowded, teddy bears and fluffy pillows are overpriced. Some people have a touch of red apparel, some can't be bothered.


I look at blackberry display pictures and I laugh. It looked like some guys had been forced to use a lady's picture at gun point. Their profile had pictures without words. No happy Val’s day or even the latest acronym HVD; mba, no form of association whatsoever.


In the end, there were gifts and there were gifts. In secondary school we called it declaration. Once anyone approached a hostel with gifts the entire house would erupt in shouts of declaration and almost escort the messenger to deliver. Unfortunately the real world has none of that excitement on Val’s day. In secondary school, there were all kinds of 'Val'; Food Val, Picture Val, Undergarment Val. Then afterwards there would be a comparison of what got sent versus what got received. Sometimes, aprokos would prevail on the recipient with a lesser gift to have it returned. (Shaking my head), So much for love.


This is a real 2013 declaration. I happen to know the recipient :)

The greeting today is “Happy Falentyne”. Plus educated o, plus uneducated. Not like they knew what valentine was all about but it was happy falentyne all the way. If you are ever looking for a seasonal business, consider something targeted at Valentine's day. Cakes, Val Hampers anything that can be decorated with red. It's a profit making season. You may just have to be patient, ‘cos somehow everyone waits till the 13th of February. I Know someone who had cake adverts, I watched her increase the price almost every day, you could tell business was good, but I also noticed that by the 13th she was forced to announce “No more orders”. So please don’t dull in 2014, because I won’t. I must get my share of Qupid’s profits.


That said I would also like to commend Nigerian men... Una dey try. These days most men are thinking way ahead of the ladies. Kudos to such men. :) 

Before I get too carried away, all I wanted to say was 'HVD' People, here's hoping your life is filled with much love all year through and that every single person finds true love before the year runs out.

PS: Like a friend just stated on facebook, “Pls resist the urge to have pre-marital sex today/tonight. We're in Lent o. Jesus died for you & I.” GBAM!!

DSTV Seems to have touched nerves this season. Below is an open letter to DSTV by an angry customer. I laughed hard when this was sent to me by Mistah Cole. Med-View Airline and its Foreign Cabin Crew!

I’ve been accused of blogging once in a 'pink' moon, so here’s one for the New Year! (image courtesy www. travelscopeng.com ) From my corner at the waiting lounge of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja, I keep staring at the Med-View Plane that had just arrived from Lagos. My mind tries to process why the plane has the EU logo and that of another country imprinted on it. I try even harder to recall what the Med-view logo actually is; the blue wavy stripes at the tail of the plane do not seem the least bit familiar! Perhaps Med-View has commenced flights outside Nigeria, I conclude. Soon enough my flight to Lagos was announced. We go through the normal security process and that’s when I see the first one. At the door of the aircraft is a Portuguese young man to tell you where your seat is. I have never quite made sense of the need for direction on a local flight.
